About Indian Super League.
The Indian Super League (ISL) is the premier professional football league in India. Since its inception in 2014, it has transformed the country's footballing landscape, evolving from a three-month tournament into a recognized top-tier national league.
Key Highlights
Top-Tier Status: Originally launched as a franchise tournament, the ISL was officially recognized as India's top-tier league by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) and FIFA in 2019.
Current Season (2025–26): The 2025–26 season, which began on February 14, 2026, features 14 clubs. Due to a delayed start, this edition follows a truncated format where teams play each other once in a single round-robin.

ISL Cup: Awarded to the winner of the final playoff match.
Continental Spot: The winner of the 2025–26 season qualifies for the preliminary stage of the AFC Champions League Two.
Historical Dominance: Mohun Bagan Super Giant (including its former form as ATK) holds a record 4 titles and recently became the first team to successfully defend the League Shield in 2024–25.
